Slow computers are detrimental to you and your business. In an age where technology is improving every day, we are now used to fast speeds and efficiency and once things start to slow or break down, we feel agitated and stressed especially when it affects productivity.
A slow computer can not only slow productivity, it can also waste time and result in missing opportunities. It can even waste money if it’s sent off to get fixed. In saying that, you’ll be relieved to know that you can easily speed up your PC on your own with a few tricks.
Make space
Majority of the time, a PC becomes slow when it is reaching its storage capacity. There are most likely heaps of programs and files that you no longer need nor want – clear them out! If you’re hesitant to delete anything, save them onto an external hard drive so they will always be there if you need them.
Close programs, apps, and tabs
The more programs and apps you have open and the more tabs on your browser, the slower your computer will be. There may even be programs running in the background and you have no idea. Avoid having programs/apps run at start up especially if you don’t need to use them every day.
Defragment
A disk defragmentation (also known as drive optimisation) basically cleans your PC spotless by rearranging hard drive data and reconciling fragmented files. Some operating systems may automatically do this for you so best to check before you attempt to do it manually.
Add more RAM
If your work entails using various programs, keeping many tabs open, and creating large files, you may want to consider upgrading your memory because deleting things will never be enough. 16GB is the best option and it is both easy & affordable to upgrade.
…And when all else fails before contacting support, try the good old ‘turn off and on’ trick!
