“I think if you do something and it turns out pretty good, then you should go do something else wonderful, not dwell on it for too long. Just figure out what’s next.”

The remainder of this article will explore a few ideas on how to have a progressive career and not get stuck. Here we go.

Always Have the Next Goal in Mind.

Author Benjamin P. Hardy has said, “Before you ever reach a goal, already have the next mountain or two in mind.”

The surest way to not get stuck in life and business is to always have a new future for which you’re striving. As Dan Sullivan has said,

“The moment you have arrived is the perfect time to start out again.”

If you get distracted by your current achievements, you’ll lose sight of the bigger picture and get stuck there. It’s fine to celebrate small successes. However, if you want continued growth, remember that it’s just a milestone and not a destination.

Think Big, Go Small.

The problem for most people is that they push their goals too far into the future and then don’t bring their actions back to reality.

It’s great to have big goals. However, you still need to have manageable steps and a plan to achieve them. So, whenever you set a new goal, ask yourself:

  • How can I break this goal down into its smallest parts?
  • How can I set deadlines and milestones throughout this goal?
  • What will achieving this goal allow me to do?

By answering these questions, you give yourself a clearer and more practical sense of what you need to do to achieve your goal, which will ultimately give you more motivation and resources to do it.
