There are people who dream and there are people who do. Both experience fear and doubt, but those that ‘do’ make their dreams a reality because they are confident, optimistic, and unreasonable. Founder of Netflix, Reed Hastings claims the key to success is irrational optimism. When you’re so extremely hopeful and confident while everyone else thinks you’re crazy, chances are you are on to something good.
Believing in yourself and your ideas is quite possibly the most important aspect of your success. Positive thinking attracts positive outcomes.
Stop doubting
It’s completely normal to doubt and question if you can actually achieve your dreams, but if you’re willing to put in the hard work and persevere – there’s no doubt you’ll find success.
Those that ‘dream’ usually get stuck in this doubt zone that paralyses them from ever trying. Without trying, nothing can be achieved. Therefore, it is best to try and fail than to never try at all. Who likes wondering ‘what if’?
Failures should be taken as lessons learned so that you can continue to grow eventually reaching that dream. So in short, not trying is failure.
Stop listening to others
Your dream, your life, your goal – it’s yours. Your loved ones may shoot down your ideas and fill your head with more doubts, but this is only because they are trying to protect you. You do not need anyone’s approval or advice, but your own internal grit hence why irrational optimism is vital.
Hastings also advises not to get too caught up in this optimism of the future without being brutally honest about the present moment. Focusing too much on the future may be harmful if you are not paying attention to what is happening now. It’s best to constantly analyse, fix, and improve on your way to achieving greatness. That irrational optimism will keep you going on the right path!
